Restoration/Stimulation and Program Design

Hey Guys,

I thought you would find this interesting…

Most people assume that hard core cardio or interval training or weight training is good for stress.  It’s not!  Exercise is a form of physical stress that really beats up the adrenal glands and makes it difficult to recover and restore your body during stressful times.  Also, excess stress can cause a hormonal imbalance.

So, what should you do when you’re super stressed?  When you are under a lot of stress in your life you are better off doing a chill out style of yoga, meditation, tai chi, or anything that is restorative.  If you want to lose body fat, you have to modify your training based on your weekly stress levels.  Just remember, high stress makes it very difficult to lose body fat. For more reading go to my blog on stress and weight loss. This graph rates different types of activities and rates them on a scale of 1 to 10 in 4 different categories (Fat Loss, Gaining Muscle, Flexibility, and Restoration).  Design your weekly program based on your stress levels, goals, and needs.  This is how you get the most out of your holistic training program
